Ready to transform your life?

What are transformational games?

Transformational games are often used as a self-discovery tool. Want to meet the love of your life, get rid of insecurities or become richer? Easy! Roll the dice, move the chip across the playing field and draw your cards. Ok, maybe not quite that easy.

Today such games have been gaining popularity because they allow us to change ourselves. When we begin to change ourselves, the opportunities around us will also change. Although the games are not a substitute for visiting a licensed psychologist they may still provide some benefits. There are common stigmas around seeing a psychologist, some people struggle to find the right person to help, or it can sometimes be seen as a form of weakness. Transformational games allow people to simply play a game and through the game the players can take steps to achieving personal goals and gain a stronger personal understanding of oneself. In some cases, transformational games can help people faster then in therapy because the game makes it easy to open up, there is less resistance to change, and of course the excitement of playing kicks in.

The result of the games are an increased self-awareness. The player sees the events of their own life from an outside perspective and can start to notice patterns, reoccurring themes, and feelings. During the course of the game they decide how to influence or use these patterns to achieve personal goals.

A brief history.

These particular types of games started to gain popularity in the U.S. around the 60's and 70's. Although the history of how transformational games began may vary from one location to another, they have been played for several decades by thousands of people.

As one story goes, a group of young Englishmen traveling in Tibet in search of enlightenment met Buddhist monks. They were sitting in the sand around drawn symbols. After a closer look, the Englishmen realized that the drawing in the sand served as a playing field. The young men asked permission to watch and studied the mysterious process for a long time. And back in their homeland, they patented the game "Transformation," which started the hobby of transformative games - and at the same time, gave them a name.

Over the years, many different versions of transformational games have developed and have become more sophisticated as digital games have developed. No matter what version of history you pay attention to or what versions you play, one thing is clear, transformational games were developed to help people reach new stages of fulfillment and work on personal development.

How can they help us achieve our life goals?

With the help of a professional facilitator, transformational games can help you develop skills and see your questions from a different perspective. The experience of playing these types of games is different for every person often incorporating different personal elements such as mindfulness, meditation, visualization, and other ways to focus on personal development.

Transformational games have been specifically developed to help the player transform in some way which may include personal growth, spiritual development, or provide a positive change in some aspect of the player’s life.

In transformational games there are no losers. The goal is for all players to receive answers to whatever questions they may have. Everything is interconnected and change in one area invariably leads to positive change in other areas of our lives when we achieve what we want. Our normal reaction is often to change external circumstances rather than take a deeper look at ourselves. If we recognize our own expectations, emotions, and reactions we will gain a greater chance of achieving our goals instead of letting them elude us. The games give us a valuable opportunity to change ourselves first and the person we wish to become.

What can I expect?

During the game, each player is always talking about themselves. It doesn’t matter what metaphorical card he/she draws. What matters is how the player reacts to the card, how he/she feels, and what decisions the player chooses to make. Therefore, when lookin gat the same card, players in the game may see and interpret the picture on the cards differently. Each player expresses themselves differently, both in the game and in life.
